Surprise!!

I am back. Not liking it, but I am back.

Vacation was great.

Went over to have dinner with my paternal grandparents on Wednesday. We chatted a bit in the living room, then made it over to the dinner table. At my dad’s seat there was a bag of licorice my grandmother had brought back from Branson. At Michele’s seat there was a package of soup mix, and at my seat there was a big gift bag with tissue paper.

I didn't want to appear too eager so I placed the bag on the floor and ate dinner.

Then the time came to open the present. I was thinking it was going to be something that my grandmother had found on her trip to Branson, so when I eventually got the box out of the bag and saw the Fed-Ex and electronics labels I didn't think anything of it. I proceeded to peel off the tape and pull out the bubble wrap.

Inside the first box was a second box. I pulled it out and was completely flabbergasted.

It was a Garmin Forerunner 305!!!

O.H. M.Y. G.O.D.

My grandparents had bought me a Garmin!!

To say I was surprised would be an understatement!!

That night I charged up my new baby and fell asleep reading the manual.

The next morning I programmed my new baby, strapped on the heart rate monitor and played around with it for a bit before heading out for my long run.

A couple weeks ago I went to the docs and the nurse weighed me, checked my temp, BP and HR. Well the heart rate she came up with was 52 bpm. Shocked me! Just 20 minutes prior to that I was barreling down the sidewalk on my bike trying to make sure I got there in time. So I was really doubting that heart rate. Well, while sitting in front of the tv fiddling with the Garmin and rereading the manual my heart rate was averaging 50, and at one point it got down in the mid 40’s!! WOW!

After finishing with the fiddling, I dressed and headed out to the river for a 14.73 mile long run! It was fun. I enjoyed having my new toy along with me and seeing what my averages were.

Next item on the list is to load the software onto my computer and download my workout info.

So grasshopper, you are a now mere grateful bug before your wise grandparents! Hopefully you have learned to praise your elders through this experince and will be humble in all things, grateful for stressful experiences which test and enhance the soul, and forever thankful for the wisdom of all elders, especially those who are 'OK'.
